Tile Cleaning

The white line at the waterline, cleaned off

Calcium scale and buildup removed from waterline tile, so the edge of your pool looks clean and polished again.

Where the white line comes from

That crusty band around the waterline is calcium scale. Arizona heat pulls water off a pool surface all summer, and hard West Valley water carries plenty of dissolved minerals. When the water at the tile line evaporates, the minerals stay behind and settle on the tile.

One layer is easy to miss. Season after season the layers build into a hard, chalky crust that a brush and a good intention will not lift.

Taking the scale off the tile

Phoenician cleans the scale and buildup off the waterline tile by hand, so the tile underneath shows again. The method has to suit the tile, because slate-look, glass and ceramic do not all take the same treatment, and the aim is to remove the crust without scarring what is under it.

If the scale has spread past the tile and the plaster is stained or crusted too, the broader job is an acid wash. Clark will tell you which one your pool actually needs.

Keeping the line from coming back

Scale builds fastest where the water level sits at the same spot for weeks and where the chemistry drifts. On weekly service the water level and the balance are checked on every visit, which slows the buildup considerably between cleanings.
